Learning Contracts
"What is desired is that the teacher cease being lecturer, satisfied with transmitting ready made solutions; his(her) role should rather be that of a mentor, stimulating initiative and research."- Jean Piaget
  • Determine your learning objectives for the unit or activity.
  • What resources will you and the students use to meet these objectives?
  • How can you individualize student work to accomodate different levels?
  • Are there concepts you want to have lessons on?
  • How do you want to write up the contracts?
  • What are your expectations for all parties involved?
  • How will you assess and evaluate students and their work?
  • Allow room for changes on the contract, so once an agreement has been made by the student and teacher, these changes can be made on the contract.
  • Provide a place for assessment on the contract for both teacher and students.
  • Allocate periods for all students to work on their contracts as this will give an opportunity to teach mini-lessons.
  • Use student teachers to assist other students who need help.
