Storytelling Do's and Don'ts

 

Do

  • DO use your own natural speech patterns.
  • DO visualize the story as you tell.
  • DO create the scenes of the tale
  • DO experiment with different ways of telling the story.
  • DO become very familiar with the story.
  • DO use body movement.
  • DO make eye contact.

DON'T

  • DON'T memorize and retell word for word.
  • DON'T say - show; paint with words.
  • DON'T avoid eye contact or body movement.
  • DON'T get discouraged if you have difficulty the first time you tell a story.
  • DON'T panic if you make a mistake.
  • DON'T begin unprepared.
