Adaptive Dimension

Philosophy

The Adaptive Dimension addresses the importance of providing alternatives for students’ learning and evaluation to promote optimum success for each student. The Adaptive Dimension includes all practices teachers employ to make learning meaningful and appropriate for each student (ELA curriculum).

In any given class, a teacher may have two types of students who require adaptation.

  • Students who require additional supports

  • Students who require additional challenges

Using the Adaptive Dimension does not mean that a teacher is changing curricular objectives. Rather, the adaptive dimension allows teachers to make changes within their classroom activities and instruction in order to help all students achieve the curricular objectives.

Framework

Within the Saskatchewan Education information, teachers can read about ways in which they may try to adapt for students in three different areas.

  • curriculum content

  • instructional practice

  • learning environment

pen As we realize that each school division is different, and provides teachers with different resources, we will not address the adaptation of the learning environment within our pages as these types of changes depend entirely on what is available to individual schools.

We encourage all teachers to read this information and brainstorm ways in which they may be able to implement these ideas into their own classrooms.

Our Resources

Within our pages on adaptive dimension, we have tried to provide teachers with some practical suggestions regarding the adaptation of curriculum content and instructional process within their classrooms.
