In Search of Self

In this unit, you are asked to consider who you are, how you relate to others, how you deal with the joys, doubts, and fears of life, and how personal identity develops.

before beginning this unit, take some time to consider some of the big questions that face an individual when examining his/her place in the world. 

People all have questions about who they are and where they belong.  Using the guiding questions provided, begin to explore your own thoughts regarding identity, human qualities, relationships, and joys or fears. 

Choose any five of the guiding questions(.doc) or (.rtf) provided and answer them based on your own opinions and experiences. 

during the exploration of the theme, In Search of Self, you will be asked to explore five different subthemes. Each of these subthemes will provide you with opportunities to participate in activities and read, listen, and view text related to the foundational ideas of the unit.

Throughout the unit, you will be asked to use your reflective journal.  Your teacher may use the following evaluation tool(.doc) or (.rtf) throughout the year.

after you have had the chance to explore each of the subthemes in an in-depth manner, take some time to re-evaluate your own ideas on life's big questions through a personal essay.

Before you begin the personal essay, refer back to the questions you chose to answer at the start of the In Search of Self unit.  Use these ideas as a starting point for you essay. 

Your task is to use the texts you have studied in a personal essay to support your answers to some of the guiding questions. Once you have an idea in mind, use the following instructions to complete your personal essay.
