Essay Writing

The following websites may be useful while teaching students to write an essay.

The Five Paragraph Essay
This is a 'how-to' site giving information on writing the formal five paragraph essay. It gives an explanation of the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, as well as explaining the use of transition words.

The Essay Outline
This site gives an example of a five paragraph essay broken up into its sections. It also provides an essay outline that is useful for students to use during the pre-writing stage of writing their essays.

This website contains a comprehensive list of various instructional strategies that may be used in the classroom. It provides explanations of the various strategies, as well as links that may provide more information.

More Instructional Strategies
This website was developed by the Saskatoon Public School Division.  Using the curriculum guide as a reference, all instructional strategies are divided into sections (Direct Instruction, Indirect Instruction, Experiential Learning, Independent Study and Interactive Instruction) and thoroughly explained.
