Planning Travel Arrangements
Travel Scenarios
A day trip for a school excursion
An overnight camping trip to a provincial park
A weekend family vacation out of the province.
A 5-10 day out of the country travel experience for a group of you and your classmates.
Itineraries
An itinerary includes information such as when, where, and how one will travel.
ASSIGNMENT: Create a detailed itinerary for a planned trip.
Once you have a trip to plan for and know the destination, begin by preparing a draft itinerary.
Research to find relevant information for the trip, which may include:
- time zone differences
- travel documents required
- cultural and language differences
- foreign currency and exchange rates
- budget details
The final itinerary is to include modes of transportation, arrival and departure dates/times, and acitivies. It must also reflect current cost and time for transportation, accommodation and planned activities.
BONUS: Prepare and plan an itinerary for your own dream trip.
Instructor's Notes: You may wish to assign the first scenario to the entire class with set guidelines and a budget for all to use to prepare for taking on one of the other scenarios. Another option would be to use the day trip scenario to access independent student skills acquired from working on one of the other scenarios within a small group.
Web resources should be a key resource in locating the necessary information.
Speaker opportunity: A travel agent would be able to speak to the role of information processing in the travel industry, as well as on the skills and abilities required in preparing an itinerary. |
