Network Configurations

Students are responsible for researching and understanding the basic function of each of the following. The suggested online resource to begin with is How Stuff Works.com. Once you go to the web site, type the search term you wish to find information on.

ASSIGNMENT 1: Summarize the function of the following (note: The suggested online resource includes information that may be beyond the scope of this course. Careful summary skills are needed.)

• Server
• Router

ASSIGNMENT 2: Have students research some of the various methods of connecting computers to the internet. Summarize key points from the articles in a comparison chart. Factors of comparison could include relative speed, cost, method of signal transmission, and when connection method was first introduced.
