Changing Contrast

Changing the contrast of a picture can allow you to enhance the main focus of your image. Typically you will brighten the focal part and really make it stand out. The contrast of an image should be the last thing you manipulate in your photograph. You can really experiment with this feature and create images that jump out at you and really impress your audience. It can also be used on black and white pictures to create stunning and brilliant photography.

Tutorials: Go through the following tutorials before you do the activities.

Activity One: Click here to get a picture of a northern lake. This picture is in need of contrast repair. Open this photo in your photo editing program and save as northernlake. Fix the contrast and save as northernlake_finished and submit to your teacher.

Activity Two: Click here to get a picture of a picnic. Open this photo in your photo editing program and save it as oldtable. The picture is very old and needs some contrast change done to it. Hopefully you saw how to do this on black and white pictures in one of the tutorials so it should be easy for you to do. Save as oldtable_finished and submit to your teacher.

Activity Three: Look through all the pictures that you have taken lately. Can you see any of them that would need repair for the contrast? I am sure there is more than one!!! Pick one and save the picture as minebefore and then open it up in your photo editing program. Do the necessary changes to the contrast and save as minefinished. Submit both to your teacher.
