What is a Web Cam?
A WebCam is a video camera that can upload images
to the internet server. The camera captures still images which are
turned into jpg files by the software. The images are uploaded to
a server and displayed on a webpage. Software settings allow new images
to be captured every few seconds or minutes. Some software allows
the user to refresh images rapidly (up to 5 per second) and provide
"almost live" video.
One of the reasons webcam sites have become so popular on the internet
is their relative ease in setting up. They require a digital video
camera, a desktop computer with a video capture system, FTP access
to a server and a consistent connection between your computer and
the Internet.
