Connecting to the Camera
Parallel Port Connection: This is where the printer plugs into a computer. This provides the slowest data exchange as it is designed for printers.

USB (Universal Serial Bus): This is found on newer computers and provides a faster exchange.

FireWire Connection: The camera is connected to the computer with a FireWire cable which allows the transfer of the digital signal from one DV device to another. This provides the best data exchange in speed and quality. FireWire ports are now available on Macintosh DV computers. On new Windows PCs, if FireWire ports aren't fitted, video users must obtain a PCI card (Peripheral Component Interconnect) containing one or more FireWire sockets.

The FireWire connection is also called iLink on most camcorders and may be referred to as IEEE1394 in the computer and camera specs.
