WebCam Setup:
A piece of computer software is needed to take
the still image from the camera and turn that image into a JPG file
and upload it to your Web server. The following setup was done using
Evological CoolCam. Check
Resources for other software suggestions.
To set up with a remote FTP server:
1. Set up a folder on the computer for the webcam
images. To include the image in a web page, use the sample blank html
file in the HTML folder of CoolCam or insert the image on your own
page by using the <img src="webcam.jpg"> tag. Your
webcam image should be named "webcam.jpg" and placed in
the same folder on the computer.
2. Contact
the person in charge of your server to request a server address to
be set up with its own URL. For more help with the FTP server link
up, see the Cool Cam User Guide.
3. Open the CoolCam application.
- Click on the Server tab - enter
the URL for the destination image on your server, username, and
password.
- The URL should indicate the
same file indicated in your page's HTML file.
- Under Advanced FTP Settings,
you can select Temporary File as the destination until the upload
is complete.
4. Options tag:
- Select "Save image locally"
and select the webcam folder you created.
- Determine how often you want the images to refresh.
- If you want the images archived,
select the folder where the images will be stored. Under the Archiving
Options, you can create a time-lapse QuickTime movie which can later
be viewed or exported for viewing on a web page or in an email.
3. Click on the "Status"
tab to verify that CoolCam is able to upload. The "View Image"
button will display the last image captured.
