Science 10

Welcome to the Science 10 resource. This resource document was created to help provide additional materials based on the Saskatchewan Science 10 curriculum (2005). The focus is to inspire students, of all cultures and genders, to become life-long learners as informed, 'science literate' members of the community. The site includes activities that help the students gain experience in problem-solving, and decision making and stimulates the students' needs for inquiry.

The four units are represented and include:
-instructional information to guide students toward understanding the concepts
-activities to strengthen that understanding
-research activities to enhance the linking of science and technology
-websites that contain content to reinforce the concepts in each of the units

The four units that are covered in this resource are:

1.

Sustainability of Ecosystems
This unit focuses on the interactions of living organisms and their environments. Some of the topics included are ecological food chains, food webs, pyramids of energy, and biogeochemical cycles.

2.

Chemical Reactions
Chemistry focuses on how energy changes take place. Students try to find out how different reactions and combinations of reactions can be used to make our lives better. Some topics undertaken in this unit are chemical and physical changes, chemical reactions, chemical equations and innovations in chemistry.

3.

Weather Dynamics
Topics included in this unit are climate changes, weather forecasting, tools used in the forecasting of weather, and diverse weather systems.

4.

Motion in Our World
The focus of this unit is on matter and the forces that affect it. Some topics that are part of this unit are motion of everyday objects, uniform motion, speed, velocity and acceleration.

A Science & Technology website developed by the Government of Canada has a storehouse of related information and activities on population density, land use and other science concepts, that could be used in the Saskatchewan Science 10 Course.
