Do we really need Goals?

organizing goals

Imagine how hard it would be to travel around Saskatchewan without any roads.

Goals are just like roads.

We need them.

We need them to make life easier for us to get from one place in our life to another.

Goals help give direction to our lives and future.

What would happen if we didn't have goals?

Would we get anywhere? Would we be happy?

Think about the times in your life when you felt unhappy or bored.

You probably a) didn't have a goal,

b) were aiming for a goal you didn't really want,

or c) you were not moving forward to reach your goal.

Goals give you purpose and reasons in your life.

People with goals know where they are going.

By simply having goals you gain control of your life.

You are in the driver's seat and you steer your life in the direction you choose.

Things make more sense and become clearer when you set your own goals.

You decide what you are capable of.

You decide what you are willing to do.

You decide to make yourself happy by aiming for your dreams, wishes and needs.

Remember only YOU can control your goals and set them up

for your F U T U R E.

Even if someone gives you the idea it all comes down to your decision.

In other words how important is the goal to your future?

Will it help you get to where you want be?

Setting goals and applying them to a timeline
is the first step to
accomplishing our goals.

Take a look at the goals on your list of Lifetime Goals.

Now organize them into two categories: Short Term and Long Goals

Short Term goals are less than thirty days.

Long Term goals are longer than a month and may even take a couple of years to accomplish.

As you place them on your list organize them from the most important to the least important.

This will help you set your priorities.

Be careful that not all the most important goals are coming from one area in your life.

You need to have balance. You must make sure you balance your needs and wants.

For example you can't be the best athlete in town but be broke all the time.

Eventually the stress and lack of nutrition will cause problems for you.

Use the charts below to set and balance your priorities. (word / RTF / PDF)

In goal setting it is important to have balance between your short term and long term goals.

Remember writing down your goals gives life to your thoughts and thoughts motivate action.

It gives you some variety and choice. It also allows for some flexibility and creativity.

A great strategy is to have your list of goals hanging up where you can see them everyday.

We need to establish long range goals to help us get past the short term bumps in our lives.
