Planning for Successful Goals
There is no such thing as a road map without roads. If you don't know where you are going the place you end up might not be where you want to be.
|
Planning a long term goal is like planning a trip.
You have to make sure you have a realistic goal and a realistic plan.
You can't go on a two week vacation to Disney Land without first having
a plan and the resources to do it.
You also have to make sure that these goals are for you and not for
the benefit of others.
By being aware of this you will not set your sights too low or too
high.
Then you can focus on the specific plan of action that each goal needs.
By making a plan and and sticking to it you will enjoy your trip towards
your goal. |
The best way to get to where you want to go is to decide where you want to go and stay on track.
Still need more convincing?
...Then here are the extra benefits from planning out your goals..
- Have you ever tried to put something together without the instructions?
or tried to cook something without the recipe?
It was difficult and stressed you out, right?
You probably were not happy with the results or worse yet screamed,
"I GIVE UP!" This is what happens to people who have goals
but do not plan instructions for them. Having a plan simply makes
things easier for you. Easier is a good thing.
- Have you ever tried one of those puzzles that do not come with a
picture?
Talk about confusion! Not to mention the decisions!
Having too many decisions to make is hard on you and a major time
waster. The fewer decisions you have to make the better. A little
time spent on planning your goal now will lessen the decisions later.
This will allow you to make the best decisions possible.
- Have you ever been controlled by someone or something? It is not
fun.
Everybody loves their freedom and independence. By planning out your
goals you gain control of your life. People and things will not be
able to take that control away from you.
- Do you remember a time when all your plans were ruined?
Of course you would have done things differently if you could have
read the future. Life is unpredictable no matter how much planning
you do. However if you have a plan and stick to it you will definitely
have a better idea of how "your future" will take shape.
Then you can look towards the future with confidence knowing that
your goals have a higher chance of success.
- Do you often get bored?
Boredom is defined as "the state of being restless through lack
of interest."
Planning can keep you from being bored because it keeps you busy with
your goals. You can expect to be in a continuous cycle that keeps
you involved in interesting and motivating activities.
- Do you think of yourself as a "talker" or a "doer"?
People can usually "talk the talk" but not everyone can
"walk the walk"
Planning helps you break down your goal into manageable steps. These
are the smaller details that you can actually "see" being
done everyday . Each step will give you satisfaction as you get closer
to accomplishing your goal.
- Do you want a guarantee that you will reach your goal?
Then all you have to do is write out a plan on how to achieve your
goal. A plan that is tailored to you is your insurance. If you take
the time to clearly plan what needs to be done you will be guaranteed
success.

Remember writing and planning out your goals creates a strong
commitment to them.
Following your dreams has nothing to do with wandering around without a plan. The most important thing is to never give up on what you set out to do.
