Anyone can learn to use these applications on their own if they take the time to work with them. The best place to start learning how to use applications is by working through the tutorials that are usually provided with the application. These tutorials present the basics of the program and work through projects that enable you to learn the skills that will enable you to create your own works. Once you learn the basics, you can experiment with features on the program by just trying them out to see what they do. The Internet also provides source of many online tutorials and learning activities that will help you learn how to use applications.

Where to Find Applications:
When you purchase a computer, it should come with some software pre-installed. Ask the retailer what software is included with the computer purchase, as there are often software packages that can be added for reduced rates at the time of purchase. If the programs that you want do not come with your computer, you can purchase them from software retailers or you can download open source software from the Internet. Most open source software is provided free or at a very low cost to the user. Software that is free is referred to as Freeware, while software that has a small charge is called Shareware.
Video and digital cameras, scanners and printers generally come with basic software needed to make them work with your computer. These programs must be installed onto the computer by following the directions that comes with your hardware.
Installing Applications
It doesn't matter whether you purchase a program or download from the net, in order to use it the program must be installed on your computer. Most programs have made this installation user friendly so that you just have to follow the directions in the dialogue boxes that appear.
Help for Learning Applications
Once you have an application, you need to learn how to use it.
Use the Tutorials: One of the best ways to learn a new program is to work through the tutorials that accompany the program. After you have learned the basics, then you can experiment on your own by experimenting with different features and options. The tutorials are usually listed in the Help menu.
Use the Help Feature: Most programs have a Help section that provides instructions on how to use program features. In fact, taking time to read sections in the Help section often leads you to explore many options that you may not be aware of. Help is usually found to the far right of the main menu bar.
Use the Internet: You can also find tutorials and tips for using programs on the Internet. A simple search using the name of the program and the words "online tutorials" or "tips and tricks" There are also discussion areas where you can post questions related to using a program and others will provide answers and information. To find a discussion, use terms such as "power point" +"discussions" in your search engine.
