Your image of self develops over time and depends on:

When you label yourself as a certain type of person, there is a script that goes with it that determines how you will act. Here are some examples.

If your self-image label is: Then your script says you should:
chubby eat more than you need to and don't exercise
quiet and shy be quiet and not ask for help. Just stay out of the way
smart solve problems easily and make good decisions
buff eat healthy and work out
competent work at being successful and overcome challenges with confidence
friendly easy to talk to, make others feel comfortable
negative look for the dark side in everything and say negative things
clean and attractive pay attention to how you look and have good personal hygiene
compulsive be unpredictable and allow little things to distract you
depressed don't smile, hang your head, sigh a lot, mope
loser act like a loser
winner act like a winner
