MANAGEMENT: Procedures and Policy

Procedures are the "HOW" - the specific actions or activities that will implement a specific plan or actualize a policy.

Policy refers to the "WHY" - the guiding principles of an organization. School libraries are influenced by the policies of their provincial government, by the Ministry of Education, the school division, and by the school.

Teacher-librarians need to have a clear understanding of how to effectively  manage the school library. While the provincial, division, and local policies must provide the WHY of the management, the procedures must reflect the  needs of the school itself. These policies determine funding and staffing  levels, support for the role of teacher-librarian and other connected factors.

  responsible.

Be sure this process includes the principal and a committee representing the various interest groups in your school.

Check your policies. Are you in compliance?
Do you know the procedure to instigate change in policies?
