6.1 Costuming Through Script Interpretation

As always, we turn to the demands of the script to determine needs, in this case, those of costume. Costuming requires a deep understanding of the script and of each of the characters. Extensive research is required to find the right look for each actor.

The script will provide the historical period, the socioeconomic status, the characters' ages, their occupations, the climate, and the season. All of these will help to make decisions about costuming needs.

Your costumes may be fantastic or realistic. Research the time period of the script and find photos for inspiration. You can research in books or on the internet.
