6.1 Budgeting for Costumes

Using a Purchase Order Form, make a list of all the costume needs for a specific play. You can use the sample script The Towers or another script from your resource centre. The objective of this activity is to develop an awareness of the costs involved in costuming.

The next step in budgeting for costumes is to estimate the prices of the costumes for rental or buying. You will have to find a number of sources, make calls or research on the internet to find what you need.

This activity is very useful if your school is actually putting on a production. This could serve as part of a work experience project for the Working a Show part of Theatre Arts 20.

Once your purchase order is complete, submit it to your instructor for "approval". In this case it will be evaluated for accuracy. If you are budgeting for a real production, the cost outlined will serve to determine how much money is required to put on the show.
