7.2 Budgeting for a Theatrical Make-up Kit

As is with all other departments, make-up must be purchased within the considerations of a budget. You can't just go out and buy the things you need, you must plan what you need in advance, research the costs for each item and then submit a Purchase Order for approval.

The following activity is intended to develop your ability to research a number of items and their costs based on the specific needs for 3 make-up applications including all the basics you would need to stock a Make-up Kit. Follow each step as outlined below:

  • Use the Character Make-up Planning Schedule to identify specific make-up needs for three applications. (Use 3 separate forms).
  • Use the Sample Inventory sheet to determine the needs for a basic make-up kit.
  • Use the Purchase Order form to record all of the items you will need, remembering to indicate the quantity and purchase price for each.
  • Use the internet to find online catalogues or if your school has a catalogue, use it. (Remember to convert to the appropriate currency; conversion applications can also be found online.)
  • Total the costs in the space provided and calculate the taxes accordingly.
  • You must use a separate Purchase Order form for each company you plan to buy from.
